A Lake Placid Lodge Surprise Proposal
This was my second time ever photographing a surprise proposal and it just cemented the fact that I LOVE THEM. Thomas reached out to me about a month and a half prior to the time he and his soon to be fiance, Kat, were going to be having a special Lake Placid getaway. I remember being in the car on the way to photograph a wedding and saw the notification come through (my mom was driving don’t worry :D) and I immediately told her about Thomas’ surprise plans.
We kept in contact while Thomas told me more details of his plan as they unfolded. I offered advice and suggestions, and thought what he had come up with couldn’t get any better, until he emailed me saying he was thinking about renting a boat to ride around in immediately following the proposal. UM YES PLEASE. The closer we got to the date, the more and more excited I got for Kat to experience this whole magical experience. I will admit I was a little nervous because I wasn’t sure if the grounds where he said he wanted to propose would be crowded, and I had no idea what they looked like! Luckily when i arrived, I only saw two couples, and one just happened to be exactly where he said they would be. So I started taking pictures of the scenery, while sneakily keeping an eye on the couple so I wouldn’t miss anything. Then I saw him make his move and probably looked insane as I quickly got into a better position to get their reactions. It was so magical and Kat’s reaction was one for the books. What was great was the guy who was about to be taking us out on the boat was nearby and got to watch the whole thing and said the same, that Kat’s reaction was priceless, and it really was!
After Thomas revealed who I was and that he had hired me to capture the moment (and some hugs of course!), we quickly climbed onto the boat and took a beautiful ride around the different islands and got to see some incredible homes on the water. Meanwhile, even while passing jaw dropping properties, Kat’s jaw never left the floor, and her eyes never left her beautiful diamond now housed on her finger. It was adorable, she was in complete shock and made for some adorable photos.
Thomas and Kat, I am so happy for the two of you. This is the start to an amazing adventure and even though I only spend a short time with you, I know you two are in for a treat while doing life side by side. Thank you so much for allowing me to capture these priceless memories for you, and for bringing me on a fantastic boat tour! I had a blast and I hope you enjoy reliving such an exciting day through some of my favorites from our time together! Congrats you two!
