An Intimate Wedding at The Whiteface Lodge | Lake Placid, New York
My very first wedding of 2019 has come and gone! I can’t believe it! Not only was it my first 2019 wedding, but it was at a venue I’ve been DYING to shoot at! One of my good friends got married at the Whiteface Lodge in Lake Placid years ago and it was absolutely beautiful. Ever since starting my photography business, I’ve been patiently awaiting my turn to photograph a wedding there and that dream came true this past Tuesday! And with the sweetest couple to top it off! Julia is the owner and main photographer of her own thriving photography business, Julia Rebecca Photography. Check out her website, friends, her work is STUNNING. I had the privilege of shooting her engagement session as well and after delivering the gallery, I thought that was going to be it. I enjoyed the time I got to spend with her and her fiance, Cole, was so thankful for the opportunity to shoot their engagement session, and hoped our paths would cross again soon because they are such easy people to talk to and get along with. Well, I got my wish a lot sooner than expected!
Julia and I met up for coffee one afternoon just to catch up and discuss some sessions and weddings we had on our calendars. It was a normal, no frills, just two creative friends who share the same passion meeting up for coffee, I didn’t think anything of it. Once the discussion died down she looked at me and said “So there’s something I wanted to run by you.” You guys, she asked me to photograph her wedding! WHAT. I was in shock, seriously. I remember just staring at her, wide-eyed thinking “Wait, did I just hear her correctly?!” She probably thought I didn’t want to do it judging by my reaction haha! Oops. Quite the opposite actually! I was ECSTATIC and started counting down to January 29th as soon as she emailed me saying they locked in that date with the venue.
Their wedding was nothing short of magical. It was a small, intimate ceremony, just the way they wanted it. The whole day was so perfectly them, between the details, the florals, the attire, the venue and the guest list. She’s been shooting weddings for years and has a natural eye for details, so I honestly expected nothing less from such a talented photographer. The pressure was ON for me to deliver, and couldn’t get over the fact that she wanted ME there to capture it all. I was so excited. Have I mentioned that already? I pushed myself to deliver the kind of work she expected of me and the kind of work I knew I was capable of.
It was the most fun I’ve had on a Tuesday in a long time. I drove home from Lake Placid that night with sore feet but a very full heart. Julia and Cole, thank you so much for allowing me to be there on your special day to capture your love for each other. I had so much fun meeting your family and friends. Everyone made me feel like I was part of the group, not just a “wedding day vendor”. It was amazing and I’m so incredibly happy for you both. Enjoy reliving your special day through some of my favorite images we captured!
