A blog post that is not at all photography related?! What?! I went back and forth for literally 4 months trying to decide if I should click publish or not because it’s way off track from the normal blog posts you’re used to seeing from me. But when I started this blog, I knew I wanted to not only take you on my photography adventures but my personal ones as well! And I know I can’t be the only one who has seen the countless Facebook ads for this company, so hopefully I’ll be able to help at least one person who has been on the fence about trying this product!
So, like I said above, I first saw the name Function of Beauty on Facebook ads. I’ll be honest, it took a couple weeks of seeing the ad before I actually clicked on it to see what the deal was with these shampoo and conditioner bottles that kept popping up on my newsfeed. The first time I clicked on the ad, I wasn’t in the market for personalized products like this at the time, so I exited out of the ad and went on my way. Well obviously the magical world of Facebook and the internet in general, has the ability to track your clicks and sometimes it seems like they track what you see, even if you don’t click on anything. Has this happened to anyone else?! Thinking or seeing something but not interacting with it or telling anyone else about it then all of a sudden you see a Facebook ad for it. CREEPY. But after I clicked on the Function of Beauty ad, I saw it ALL. THE. TIME.
So a while back, I got my hair dyed, and not just highlights; I took the plunge and did an all over color for the very first time and I LOVED it. Naturally, I wanted the color to last as long as possible before I had to go back and get it colored again, because those salon trips add up quick! I told myself I would click on the next Function of Beauty ad that I saw (I knew it wouldn’t be long) and I created my hair profile. The first thing you do is tell them what type of hair you have. I put that my hair is wavy, fine and oily. I’m cursed with an oily scalp. I’m one of those people that has to wash their hair every morning, I can’t even get away with dry shampoo, believe me I’ve tried! After that, you get to pick your “Hair Goals”. For my “Hair Goals” I wanted: oil control, thermal protection, anti-frizz (because, duh), volumize, and color protection. Finally, you get to pick the color and scent of your shampoo and conditioner. I picked dye-free (because I’m really boring apparently) and hibis(kiss) as my fragrance.
My first impression of the product was extremely positive. Super easy and fun to order, fast shipping, and simple but cute packaging. I couldn’t wait to try this stuff out! It has A TON of good reviews, so my hopes were pretty high. I read through the instructions on how to use the product the way they recommend for best results and was actually excited to wake up with my alarm the next morning. Side note: anyone who knows me well knows I am NOT a morning person, so that is saying something! To my surprise, I noticed a difference with the very first use! It’s almost like I could actually feel my hair being cleansed. Pretty neat! What’s weird is you have to shampoo twice, at least with my combination. They say that the second time you should notice a much foamier lather, showing that your hair is now almost 100% clean and they weren’t joking. The second round of shampoo brought on twice as many suds as the first, using the same amount of shampoo as the first round. After you rinse all of the shampoo out, you apply a dime-sized amount of conditioner from the middle-shaft to the ends of your hair, making sure it doesn’t touch your roots or scalp, let it sit for 3 minutes, then rinse with cold water. Another side note: I rinsed with as cold of water as I could stand with being in the shower…I mean, who showers with cold water? Nobody.
After towel drying my hair, I noticed a difference immediately. Previously, I had been using Nexxus Color Assure shampoo & conditioner. That stuff is expensive as far as shampoo & conditioners go so naturally I was hesitant to buy it, but like I said before, I wanted the best of the best to keep my new color as long as possible. Comparing Function of Beauty to the Nexxus I was using, there was no comparison. After my first Function of Beauty use I was hooked. The one complaint I do have is the smell. You are able to pick Light, Medium or Strong for your fragrance choice and I picked light but I still feel like it’s pretty strong and unfortunately the hibis(kiss) in my opinion smells like cheap hotel shampoo. The fact is, I love this stuff so much I didn’t want to send it back just because of the smell. I never want to stop using Function of Beauty. Ever. What’s also great is I decided to purchase my set on International Women’s Day, so 100% of the profits went to 1 out of the 3 charities I had a choice between at checkout. So awesome!
Overall, 10/10 would recommend, hands down. This stuff makes you feel like you’ve just walked out of the salon from a fresh cut. My hair is incredibly soft, isn’t weighed down, and to be honest I don’t even notice the smell anymore. I hope this post was helpful to at least one person who has been thinking about trying Function of Beauty! If you do place an order and receive it but are not happy with the smell or if the combination isn’t quite right for your hair type, they offer free returns within the first 30 days of receiving your order and based on other reviews, their customer service is apparently top notch! Some other notes about the company that I really liked was: the product is paraben free, sulfate free, does not contain toxins, and it isn’t tested on animals. All positives in my book!
